What Is A Root Canal?
A root canal is a common procedure for dental issues requiring professional care. A dentist uses an anesthetic and drills to carefully remove the infected tissue from the tooth. The inside of the tooth is then thoroughly cleaned and sealed off with a filling, leaving your tooth structurally sound but unable to continue transmitting pain signals!
How Is The Procedure Performed?
When you arrive, we will first administer a local anesthetic to numb the area. Once your tooth is effectively numbed, we will then begin the procedure by removing the infected tissue from within the root of your tooth. We gently clean out all debris and bacteria from within your tooth’s roots before sealing it off with filling material.
In the majority of cases, a crown will likely be necessary to prevent the tooth from fracture. It helps to better seal and protect the tooth than the filling would alone.
What Are The Benefits Of A Root Canal?
Root canals allow us to remove the infected or damaged tissue from within a seriously painful or swollen tooth. We can seal off the inner pulp of the tooth so that it cannot produce pain. It also allows you to keep the tooth in your mouth as opposed to the alternative option of extracting it, which can lead to more issues down the road.
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, there is a good chance that you need a root canal:
- Severe pain that does not subside
- Painful swelling around the face, neck, or gums
- Sensitivity to heat/cold
- Tenderness when biting
- Altered taste in your mouth
There is no need for you to continue suffering from such troubling symptoms when there may be a viable solution! Contact us today to learn how we may be able to help you!
What You Can Expect From A Root Canal?
Root canals are a safe, effective treatment for a variety of dental issues. The most common reasons to get a root canal include:
- Tooth Decay
- Broken or Damaged Tooth
- Large Cavities
- Gum Disease
- Abscessed Tooth
After the tooth has been properly numbed, we will begin with gentle drilling directly into the top of your tooth. This is where we will loosen and remove any broken pieces and eradicate any infection or decay, thoroughly cleaning out the affected area. We then fill it with a protective material, leaving your tooth structurally sound.
